For the fourth consecutive year, Jadek & Pensa had the pleasure of hosting the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot Competition, where Slovenia’s top law students competed in a challenging arbitration setting. This year, teams from the University of Ljubljana and the University of Maribor participated, demonstrating outstanding legal knowledge, advocacy skills, and readiness to tackle real-world arbitration disputes.
Why Have We Been Organizing the Pre-Moot for Four Years?
The Vis Moot is one of the most prestigious international student competitions in international commercial arbitration. Pre-Moot events like ours provide teams with an invaluable opportunity to test their arguments in a real-world setting and face the challenges posed by experienced arbitrators. These competitions help students develop analytical thinking, structured argumentation, and quick responsiveness—all of which are essential for a career in dispute resolution.
Arbitrators from Jadek & Pensa
This year’s simulated arbitration proceedings were judged by Nastja Merlak, Daniela Sindičič, Mihael Pojbič, Eva Milošič, and Rok Škof.
With their extensive experience, the arbitrators challenged the teams with demanding questions, tested their arguments, and encouraged them to think strategically—an invaluable preparation for the next stages of the competition.
A Tight Competition and Victory for the University of Ljubljana
The competition took place in a dynamic and intellectually rigorous environment, where participants demonstrated exceptional legal reasoning and persuasive advocacy. After an intense debate, the team from the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana claimed victory, earning this year’s Jadek & Pensa award.
We congratulate all participants on their dedication, preparation, and professional performance. Every team proved they are more than ready for the next challenge—the final rounds in Vienna and Hong Kong.
Best of Luck to the Competitors!
Hosting such competitions allows us to connect with top legal talent while contributing to the development of arbitration law in Slovenia. We believe that this experience will not only benefit the participants at the Vis Moot but also play a significant role in their future legal careers.
We look forward to following the results of the teams in Vienna and Hong Kong and wish them great success.
